Every year, Robotech ships several injection molding machines from China to Europe. For this complex journey, they have relied on Jan van Dam Global Machine Logistics for many years. From ocean transport to installation in the factory: one partner who knows exactly how to handle it. Without obstacles, without mess on site. In August this year, Jan van Dam once again managed the transport of seven machines, destined for an end customer in Luxembourg.

The seven machines were shipped from China in standard containers and on flatracks. Jan van Dam arranged the sea freight from the Chinese port to Rotterdam and coordinated with the shipper. Thanks to careful planning, the transport was efficient and free of delays. Upon arrival in Rotterdam, Jan van Dam handled customs clearance, and the machines were unloaded at its own warehouse near the Maasvlakte.
Unpacking in the warehouse: clean and efficient
In the warehouse, the seaworthy wooden crates were removed. This prevented waste or debris at the end customer in Luxembourg and allowed assembly to start right away. All components were carefully repacked and prepared in the correct sequence. This is important because the machines are delivered in kit form: the foundation and base structure must go in first.
“This is always an exciting moment,” says Mark Waterreus of Robotech. “When the wooden frames are removed, you finally see how the machine looks after its long journey. Jan van Dam does this professionally and neatly. That gives us confidence.”
After one week of storage in Rotterdam, the transport combinations departed for Luxembourg. There, a compact 200-ton-meter mobile crane was used to position the heaviest parts with millimeter precision.
A key advantage: all lifting activities were carried out with electric cranes. This meant no exhaust gases in the factory, a healthier working environment for employees, and no emissions to the surroundings.
“The team from Jan van Dam knows what they are doing,” Waterreus adds. “They radiate calm and ensure that everything goes according to plan.”
Result: machines ready for production
Within the agreed timeframe, the first machines were in place: clean, in the right sequence, and positioned correctly. Robotech’s technicians could immediately begin assembly. The machines will be used for the production of plastic pallets and paving tiles. The entire process—from ocean freight from China to installation in Luxembourg—went smoothly. The delivery of the last of the seven machines, from our warehouse to Luxembourg, is scheduled for the end of this year.
