‘I like their down-to-earth approach’

BMT Machine Tools supplies turning lathes and milling and grinding machines to the metal and plastics processing industry. Machines that operate within a one-hundredth of a millimetre accuracy. A relationship of trust with your transporter is essential in this respect. Gunnar: ‘If you claim to sell precision machinery, you cannot just let some cowboy roll your machine inside. You’ll want that to be consistent with the quality of your organisation’s products. When Van Dam delivers one of our machines to one of our customers, we don’t have to give that a second thought. That gives us and our customers peace of mind.’

Jan’s no-nonsense approach is entirely consistent with Gunnar’s approach. ‘I like their down-to-earth approach. Jan is a matter-of-fact type, not overbearing, approachable and practical by nature. He and his people are solution-oriented, just like our technical service, and that’s what I like to see. After all, it is easy for anyone to point out a problem; but the question is, what are you going to do about it? For our customers it is very important how you handle any problems, and Van Dam does that very well.’

Aside from its own deliveries, BMT engages Jan van Dam for moving its customers, and in 2012, they also moved their own plant together with this transport company. ‘They work hard, do what they say and it does not take any effort on my part; everything is done correctly the first time around. They handle a project like this, the loading and the unloading, in a very serious and professional way.’ It is therefore not by coincidence that the transporter’s method of working is consistent with BMT’s core values: no-nonsense, customer-oriented and passionate. ‘When your partner gives a customer the same feeling of confidence and satisfaction as you do yourself, you have synergy and then you reinforce each other. That’s what I like to aim for.’
