“Our customers are increasingly requesting emission-free loading and unloading inside factory halls. Electric operation makes on-site work cleaner and quieter.”

Jan van Dam Machine Transport has put a new Volvo FH Aero with a 225 tonne/metre truck-mounted crane into operation. The vehicle was developed in collaboration with Van Dijk Trucks and CCH from Halsteren and is designed to carry out machine transport more safely, efficiently, and flexibly. In many situations, a single vehicle can now perform work that previously required two trucks.

Specifically designed for machine transport

The Volvo FH Aero is fully tailored for specialized machine transport. CCH developed a removable rear chassis section, allowing for maneuvering in tight factory halls. When a longer loading platform is needed, this section can be easily mounted.

The vehicle is equipped with the heaviest possible foldable crane within the applicable regulations, combined with an extra-heavy hydraulically extendable lifting jib. This significantly increases its reach and versatility.

Toon Christiaens of CCH said: “Jan and I discuss the technical possibilities within legal regulations and practical experience on a monthly basis. Because we know each other well, ideas naturally emerge. Together with Van Dijk Trucks, we turn them into practical solutions that work in the field.”

Van Dijk Trucks supplied front axles with the maximum permissible load. In combination with Volvo Dynamic Steering, the vehicle remains extremely maneuverable while safely carrying the additional weight. Thanks to air suspension and a low superstructure, transport of large machines stays within the maximum height. The aerodynamic design also delivers up to 5 percent fuel savings. Additionally, the crane can rotate entirely electrically via a battery pack.

Safe and emission-free operation

Safety was central to the development process. The cab meets the latest NCAP standards and is equipped with all available safety systems.

In addition, the truck-mounted crane can be powered entirely electrically, responding to the growing demand for emission-free and low-noise operation.

Stef van Dam said: “Our customers increasingly request emission-free loading and unloading within factory halls. Electric operation makes on-site work cleaner and quieter.”

Collaboration as a foundation

The new truck-mounted crane is the result of an intensive, years-long collaboration between Jan van Dam Machine Transport, Van Dijk Trucks, and CCH. By combining practical experience, technical knowledge, and insight into laws and regulations, a vehicle was developed that goes beyond a standard configuration.

Roel Hoogendoorn of Van Dijk Trucks said: “Vehicles like this only come about when partners truly listen to the field. By combining our knowledge with Jan van Dam’s experience and CCH’s technical expertise, a solution emerges that perfectly meets the work’s requirements.”

Stef van Dam emphasizes the collaborative nature of the project: “This truck-mounted crane demonstrates what is possible when three companies with years of cooperation combine their vision and expertise. With partners who think along and adapt, we can continue investing in safe and efficient machine transport.”

With this addition, Jan van Dam Machine Transport once again chooses the Volvo FH Aero. Previously, three vehicles of this type were already put into operation.
